Got cans? Our Can Trailer is here to turn your aluminum cans into direct support for the park! Every recycled can helps fund improvements and community events. Please remember: aluminum cans only—no trash, plastic, or tin cans. Thanks for helping us keep the park clean and thriving!

The Green River Community Association (GRCA) would like to share the history of the Joe Boyd Can Trailer. Joe Boyd was a citizen of Tuxedo, NC for all his life. He lived simply at the corner of Mt. Olivet Rd and Old Us 25 Hwy.

He could be seen everyday sitting outside waving to everyone who passed by. He had a small square wooden box with a sign above it that said "Put Cans Here". And people always did. They would stop and chat with Joe and leave their cans in the receptacle. What many people did not know was that Joe collected the cans, not for himself, but to donate the money from the recycling of the cans to buy Christmas gifts for children less fortunate. After his death, GRCA community members carried on the recycling effort. They built a small trailer to collect the cans. It was eventually moved to its present location at the Tuxedo Community Store across from the Tuxedo Park. The trailer has been rebuilt to make it safer to transport the cans to the recycling center. The money collected goes directly to be used for improvements in our community. Joe Boyd's love for his community and the people who pass through Green River live on. Thank you to all the people who put their cans in the the Joe Boyd Can Trailer and make sure you wave at your neighbor!
